Lauren
Shannon, a rising senior at Winthrop University, served as a summer
intern for Operation Home. The social work major coordinated the
Heat Relief program as a course requirement for volunteer hours.
Lauren’s last day was August 1. She plans to take a couple
of weeks off to have fun before heading back to school. “I
hate to see her go,” says Executive Director Elaine Faithful.
“Lauren is bright and capable and she has been tremendously
helpful.” Lauren says, “I will be returning to school
with a greater knowledge of what I wish to do with my life as a
social worker.”
On
June 26, 2007, 2 adults and 11 students from SC Governor’s
School gathered to put their energy and smiles into helping better
the lives of Maggie Mazyck, her sister Elizabeth and their 101 year-old
mother. 
Overgrown
beds were pruned and weeded and new flowers were planted. Within
just a few hours, everyone was enjoying the smell of a freshly-cut
